Prov. 22:6: Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Many of the world’s eminent preachers in all ages received Salvation through Christ Jesus in their early childhood. It is important to teach children the Love of God at an early stage of their life because they learn things far more readily than adults. Adults are usually too proud to learn and are hardened by sin. Furthermore, what is learned by a child is seldom forgotten (Pro 22:6). A child, who is saved early in life, wastes fewer years pursuing the worthless things of this world and has more years to serve God. Children are able to trust in the Lord when they are young (Ps 71:5) and can be mightily used by God (Ps 8:2). Therefore, God expects us to prepare our children to know their Creator when they are young (Ecc 12:1).
Bible says in Prob 9:10; “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”. It is necessary to take utmost care in training up a child; during the early stages of his life, guiding him to the Truth of the Word of God and enabling him to develop Christ-like character within himself. Any sort of mistakes in upbringing of a child will result in moulding unpleasant characters. The curse of the present generation is the “lack of God’s fear” which is due to the wrong concept of training them in the way they exhibit their interest in. Hence they seek all possible ways by themselves to pursue the so-called wisdoms and finally they end up in vain achievements without God. Of late this practice has severely increased even in Christian community. Hence Sunday school has a pivotal role to play, in showing the right direction and creating a lasting impact in children developing in them a strong conviction about their faith & their purpose, i.e being with Lord Jesus in Eternity.
We at I P C Bethel, Dubai have realized the importance of Sunday School Ministry and the need to perfect the spiritual growth of our generation. With this purpose in mind we decided to reach out to the children through this Ministry and God enabled us to begin our Sunday School in the year 1995. The Sunday School which started with very few students; has witnessed significant growth during past few years; in conjunction to the growth of our church. Presently around 80 students attend our Sunday school in 12 grades and 14 dedicated teachers participate in this blessed ministry. Children from other Pentecostal & denominational churches also attend our Sunday School which we consider as a blessed opportunity to evangelize both young & old alike.
The Sunday School is held every Friday between 9.45 AM to 11.15 AM at the Holy Trinity Church compound, Dubai and constitutes XII classes beginning from Beginners – I & II up till Class – XI. Well equipped & talented teachers ensure that every Sunday School is a memorable time spent. Children get an opportunity to join in unison & participate in the soul-inspiring ‘Song & Worship’ sessions & subsequently get enriched from the Word of God through carefully prepared Biblical lessons. Sunday School Exams are conducted twice a year & children are awarded & encouraged to inculcate good spiritual values. Talent Tests are conducted once every year giving them the opportunity to develop their talents. In addition to this One Day Seminars & Sunday School Outings are also organized for the children once every year to keep their spirits high all through-out the Sunday School year.
Finally , at the end of every Sunday School academic year; its time for the Sunday School Anniversary; which every child looks eagerly forward to . This is the opportunity to display their talents on the stage - all the while striving to bring-out the meaning of the theme through various programs; which are based on different Biblical themes every year.
In conclusion; I take this opportunity to thank our LORD & Saviour Jesus Christ for His Divine Grace, Presence & Blessings bestowed on the Sunday School through all the past years and enabled us to spiritually school a number of children since 1995. Once again to God Almighty alone be glory, honour and might forever. Amen.
